Hi @Arussell125 I was chatting with ThinkOrSwim support and they told me that it's not possible to short penny stocks (OTC stocks can't be shorted). I was wondering how did you deal with this?
@Arussell125 Hi Arick, I could see in your YouTube channel that you are using TDA Ameritrade with ThinkOrSwim. Is the ThinkOrSwim platform for free? Thanks
@alealvarez you can paper trade with real time quotes, you have to call and ask them.
Hi @GreTa Thanks for that, today's morning I realised that my PaperMoney account at ThinkOrSwim was very delayed. I will give them a call and ask for real time quotes as you suggested. Thanks for your information Guys :)
@alealvarez np
I think if you have a balance of more than $25,000 with TD Ameritrade they give you the Thinkorswim platform for free.

[TimAlerts] $NYMX None To Borrow at ThinkOrSwim
[TimAlerts] $DAKT o/n. In at 8.28 out at 8.62. Accidentally clicked "Sell Mkt" while autosend was on using ThinkOrSwim. Left an additional 15 cents on the table. Great trade still.
[TimAlerts] Good news reported on ThinkOrSwim about $PPHM. May be a long term just like GBSN
[TimAlerts] CLOW has shares to short with ThinkOrSwim
Top penny stock broker platforms for buying and short selling include ThinkOrSwim, SpeedTrader, Interactive Brokers, SureTrader, Etrade and TDAmeritrade. More information is given at the following link, http://pennystockwhizzkid.com/best-brokers-for-trading-penny-stocks/ discussing what is the most suitable brokerage for you!!
[TimAlerts] ThinkOrSwim has great tools to form trendlines and see where entry and exits should be, especially on stocks like CLTX today, your lower indicator uptrending should be MAX entry (for a long) and upper should be where you start taking profits if it goes in your favor
[TimAlerts] My first real trade today on $FORD, in 200 shares at 1.45 out at 1.56, I about broke even after commissions using ThinkOrSwim but I learned a thing or two. off to analyze the trade in my "diary".
@Erik920 Hello I am new to trading as I think you are too. If I may ask what is your thoughts on SureTrade comparing to ThinkOrSwim? The reviews on Suretrade are horrible but I do not know what to believe. Best of Lucks trading.
[TimAlerts] no shorts for OHGI in ThinkOrSwim ! :(
Out $VSR for small loss. My thinking was right on, as this thing hit $7.66 premarket, but fucking ThinkOrSwim would not execute my orders. This is not the first time I've been screwed by not allowing premarket trades. (IB did it to me on my $CAMT loss.) I sold right at the open though, relieved that it didn't tank more. Could have been more patient and waited for the first candle and eaked out a profit, but when it started panicking in the last 3 minutes premarket, I wasn't going to mess around. I'll be transferring out my remaining funds from TDAmeritrade and moving it into IB to focus 100% on short selling.
Man, bounced off of 6.50 support and had a quick spike up to 7.50. There was profit potential there, but this stock is way too choppy and scary. And now looking at it, my order got executed right at 6.84, so I'm out flat minus commission (which is way too high at TD).

Long $VSR into a strong close at 6.84. Aftermarket it's up to 7.20 and counting. I'd love to get out now, but ThinkOrSwim doesn't seem to be getting me filled even though I'm putting it on the bid. Maybe there's some issue I don't know about. Frustrating because I can see this being a huge decliner premarket tomorrow. I guess for now I'll wait with baited breath and see. I've already determined that longing is not my thing. But I'm out of trades at IB and I was itching for some action. Kind of a stupid gamble. We'll see how it goes.
Annnnd now it's panicking.
Fuck you, ThinkOrSwim. All you're good for is Level 2 and charts.
If support at 6.60 breaks, this is going to be a shitty loss.
There it goes. I need to just look away.
Just spoke to the Etrade support chat and told me the same "Unfortunately, you can not short penny stocks (any stock trading on any of the the OTC markets)"
Like any other broker they classify stocks as ETB, HTB and NTB, which means, Easy to Borrow, Hard To Borrow and Not To Borrow respectively. For you to short on the HTB stocks you will need to maintain an account balance of more than $100,000 with TD Ameritrade. Thats what they told me
