It took me a while to figure out what I preferred for a complete trading software setup. Charts are the most important and for the longest time I couldn't figure out a setup that worked best and appealed to me.
After a while I finally found the ideal layout. I started using TOS's (ThinkorSwim) charting as you can easily create a multi-chart/grid layout to watch several stocks all at the same time; it's a pretty cool function.
Next, I have STT (StocksToTrade) for the main scanner/screener I use to find the tickers I'm looking for; this includes creating custom scans to fit your own criteria. I also use this as a secondary charting software to draw out lines and even practice paper trading new setups I'm experimenting with.
And lastly, I have my main broker (Trade Zero) or whatever broker you prefer for executing trades.
So basically 3 main tools. It works best if you have multiple monitors (2-3) to keep everything in view but I did start out with just a laptop and 1 monitor at first.
I hope this helps some!
