How I create my watchlist for (Potential) Earnings winners the day before, most of the time Tim's Earnings picks show up on my list. I'm also looking for better/single source to pull data automatically into Google Spreadsheets. Comments are appreciated!
I use these tools:
1) Google Spreadsheets linked to Yahoo for making data gaterhing easier
2) Zacks Earnings Calendar: To find stocks and their annoucement time
3) Seeking Alpha: I copy and paste picks to create a watch list and get autoupdates on my IPhone
4) Google News: Using their search tool sorted by date
5) ETrade Charting: Check general chart and support/resistance
The process is pretty simple, if the pick fails any of the following steps I remove it from my list
A) Check stocks on the earnings calendar for After Close and Before Open
B) Check the chart on ETrade
B) Enter symbol in Google Spreadsheets that looks up data from google financial and Yahoo (I'll List the formulas below, If I get any requests I can share the sheet as well)
C) If it matches my criteria copy the Info. to my watch list on the same sheet (Volume, Volatility, Sector etc.)
D) Copy the tickers and paste them into Seeking Alpha Under my portfolio, once the earnings come out I'm alerted
E) Pare the list down from my sheet and Seeking Alpha
F) Check the winners prices and news before the open and if there's a gap and no negative news I checck the chart for Support/Resistance Levels for potential entries/exits
Google SpreadSheet Formulas for Auto Import of data
-------------------------------------------------------------
Yahoo Statistics
=IMPORTHTML("http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s="&$A$2&"+Key+Statistics","table",30)
Yahoo History
=IMPORTHTML("http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s="&$A$2&"+Key+Statistics","table",28)
Google Open Price
=googlefinance($A$2,"priceopen")
Column A and Row 2 is where I enter the symbol, you can have it anywhere on your sheet, Plus you can pull other data in automatically using Yahoo or Google Finance
if u use ThinkorSwim u can use a earnings study filter
@dj530 ThinkorSwim's earnings data doesn't show 75% of the earnings winners I find on my own. It's a decent tool, but I wouldn't rely on it. @conciouswarrior I have an automated research tool for earnings winners you can check out http://2alive4925.svbtle.com/how-to-find-earnings-winners
thats hella awesome thanx
I use www.earningswhispers.com. free calendar of every company reporting earnings. And the filings/ conference calls.
