For almost all my trading career I have adopted the attitude that anyone and everyone who wants to learn to trade should also learn to use excel for the purpose as a trading journal and trade tracking. I believe it is a crucial part of trading success that someone should learn how to do. As I grew in popularity with my recent trading success and the attention my YouTube videos have been getting surrounding my spreadsheet, I’ve been getting the most repeated question of them all, “Can I have your spreadsheet?” A few months ago I tweeted this thread as to how I thought I could calm down the amount of spreadsheet requests I was getting. I still stand by these tweets that making a spreadsheet yourself will be the best for you in the long run. But did this stop from people asking me for the sheet? Of course it didn’t. I started getting this question so many times to the point that I just stopped replying to people who asked. But I’ve recently seen a change in questions and has made me change the way I look at it.
A large amount of people have asked me if I have an excel template to share of my “Monthly P&L” sheet as its very clean and keeps monthly tracking very organized. I came to realize it doesn’t matter how many people I say no to, there’s always another person right around the corner ready to ask me. I still and will always recommend you make it yourself, but for those people who might need a jump start to your excel career or who just can’t make their sheets as organized as mine, fine you win. I’d much rather help you get started then just ignore your question and leave you in dust. I know I would’ve wanted the same thing if I wasn’t experienced in excel prior to finding trading.
So I’ve decided to compromise. I will give you my “Monthly P&L” calendar sheet to help you stay organized but for a small price. I’ve made a video so I can explain in better detail:
