They charge $50 a month for the platform. You must have it.. Without it the basic platform is buggy like he said.

I have only had one problem with suretrader and that was the platform freezing twice in one day. Besides that they are the best broker as far as opening a margin account $500, no PDT rule, nearly always having shares to short, credit/debit card funding and 6 to 1 leverage!
