I wouldn't have even traded it until the reaction of the news confirmed it was a winner. This could have easily been a dud or tanked in reaction to th news. You can get in later after the initial spike with much less risk

@trader91 You can have your order executed at 2.90 with a limit at 2.80, but the key is that you won't get your order executed below 2.80 from market makers and trading robots. The only downside is that you can miss your execution if a stock that's dipping falls below your limit price.

@StarSeedz so that means i put a limit order at 3.20 or 3.80 and thats the price i am willing to lose and only risking 20 or 80 cents. But my main goal is to execute the stock below 3 $ for an example 2.80 so that i am profiting 20 cents. Sorry for my english. And Thanks!

@trader91 Where you want to execute is up to you. If I had a goal to short a particular stock if it breaks $3 than in this example I'll place a short order with a limit at 2.93 once that support is broken.

500$ to open an etrade account, 99$ a month for etrade pro unless you make 30 trades a quarter (4 months) then it becomes free. they gave me mine at 25 after emailing them if i could have it.

@Raidon I was looking to 30% but it failed and had a mental stop at 1 cent if that makes any sense haha Overall i just wanted to get my feet wet with the executions on real time because paper trading was not doing what I wanted it to do!

is td ameritrade good for shorting and buying penny stocks? and how much money do you need for margin? and do you use level 2 and charting and is it thinkorswim platform for charting and level 2, and are the executions great do you get filled?

@trader91 Havent started to short yet, still new but i tried on paper account and they did not have some shares to borrow. I think your best bet would be IB, which was my first option but i am not old enough to start an account (21+)... TDA minimum for margin is 2k, I do have a margin account with them and you need to sustain 2k. I do use LVL2 and charting on thinkorswim platform.. The excutions this morning were great, but this is my first broker. I am sure there are far better brokers that exe

when paper trading do you use level 2 and charting, wich platform do you use

TheVulcanTrader
TheVulcanTrader Oct 15, 15 4:55 PM

no level 2 for wallstreetsurvivor.com, for better decision on what stock to paper trade I use Yahoo Finance charts and headlines, stockcharts.com as well as seeking alpha website. So no level 2, just a lot of research

trader91
trader91 Oct 15, 15 5:53 PM

You should use level 2 to determine when to entry and exit, and also yahoo finance is great but their charts are not, you cant see the market depth.

YOu can use the basic etrade to trade for free. Use level 2 on TD Ameritrade. Great charting and Level 2's also free

You are correct, TOS is the platform. Its free. Yes I opened an account with them and use them regularly. Love their Trade "Flatten" button.. Your out in an instant. Don't remember if their was a min amount to open account. If so its not much at all.
