I'm having the same problem...... waiting for funds to clear after a trade. That being said, if you don't cut losses quickly, you may end up without and funds to trade with! Just have to focus om making the right trades and follow the rules.

I lost today 25% on HART because I didn't cut losses quickly. I should have sold yesterday, broke the rule and lost a third of my account. Lesson learned. Look at opening two different brokers.

Even if you don't plan on trading a certain stock you can still 'practice' looking for those tickers and simply make a watchlist out of 20 of them then review how they did during the day based on how you scanned or filtered for them.. If half of them had a good run of price action (trend during the day) then you at least are searching correctly... .

Any news CAN cause a price jump, Yes. However, not all news will cause spiking. You must look at the history of the stock and how it perhaps correlates to other news reports. If you choose to enter early and the stock does not do as you expect and goes the other direction...cut losses early. Be sure to enter as the spiking is begining, do not chase it. Early entry is key to a successful profit !!!
