@MarkAus Hey Mark. Its nice to read your blog and you pretty well reflect what I went through in initial phase of trading. Am from India, working in middle east and moving to Australia soon( depending on when NSW offers me state sponsorship ;) ) I too started pretty optimistic with Suretrader. Had some fantastic days but inexpiernce and greed took better off me and ultimately lost $3000 last year. No regrets. It was a great time to learn. I will resume trading once in Aus using your cheap credit system :) . Just wanted to ask you man, how do u manage trading if working in a day 9 to 5 job?

this is the biggest factor holding me back, the time diff and having to get up to go to work, could do for a few days or weeks but i can't see doing this long term

correct. which part of australia do u live in? living in western australia still makes it slightl possible as market opens at 9.30 pm. Atleast can trade morning spikers.

I stopped trading in Nov 15 for many reasons. Its a hard time to trade for sure but I've still been learning. When I was trading\working I would mostly focus on charts and setups. When I thought something was going to happen I'd go home, sleep and trade. Then after about 2 hours go back to bed. Mast I would do this was 3 times a week.

$15 a trade isn't too bad. You want good charts to play which should net you $200 to $2000 profit. Don't settle for any chart.

MarkAus Jun 30, 16 2:03 AM

A chart like WLKR is under $1. OX isnt good with low cost shares. Plus, they charge you a lot. Move to Suretrader if they're the charts you want. OX is better for $2 stocks and above.

@bennos Consider Trend Trading if sleep is an issue. I've been playing with it and although not something I want to do 100% its a good way to learn how to play stocks longer term. Think I mentioned this in the blog?

Wow it's June! I'm not on here much these days, the year has been tough. Anyway, update time: I found work 4 weeks ago with Telstra. Yay employment! I started paper trading again and so far Im the green. I've learned a fair bit since I was last here and now understand how risky the whole Penny Stock trading is. Shorting is crazy risky and the strategy is more for advanced traders with cash. Been doing some study on Trend Trading and although not super lucrative short term its a great way to learn the prof with less fear. Highly recommend it for Aussies who want to trade US stocks. I'll post more when I have time.

Update or 27th March 2016 -- I've been away for months and months for various reasons. Life is a little weird for me and the markets have been too unstable. Looking at Suretrader again after getting some info back from them. Might look into trading again come the next few weeks if things go well. Be careful out there. The markets could be heading very, very bearish this year. $SPY has been doing naughty, naughty things.

@MarkAus Hey mate, apologies for the random message. I'm an Aussie and am just kind of getting into this, still learning and looking at brokers/platforms but won't be kicking things off til I've paper traded for a while. I was looking at Options Express and on the face of it their fees seem not too bad. A couple of your updates indicate you're not happy with them? Any feedback is much appreciated.

Hi Tone, sorry for late reply. Havn't been trading. I'd recommend Suretrader as you can have a far smaller amount with them and still have no PDT rule to restrict your trading (they're not the best but a good start point). I can't seem to sign up though. OX does the job but has a bit of a learning curve and restrictions (see my blog). I'm limited in text here so if you have any further questions let me know.

No worries, cheers for the reply Mark. I signed up to OX and it seems ok, although I'm still paper trading and just using their demo virtual account. Will look into SureTrader as well. Cheers again mate, all the best.

2015 looks finished for me: I invested a lot with Guru's hoping to learn trading along with a strategy. Mostly it's been educational but also way overpriced and frustrating. Stay away from premium priced Guru's with their insane marketing. Stick with cheaper, transparent Guru's if need be and know none support international users very well. Stay away from 'yearly subscriptions' & alerts. Monthly sub is best to test the waters of a Guru as most can't teach for shit. Next I plan to get my account in the green (next year) and prey to the dark gods that I can trade through America's economy bubble explosion. Even then I still need a broker that works! A bane in my side! GL.

@bennos Careful with the Guru thing. I found Tim to be a waist of time. Superman seems to have a strong following but he seems pretty hardcore. I liked the Investors Underground vids but at the same time was dissapointed with it. Best advice: Try one with a month to month sub. That way you can leave. Don't pay anyone annual fees. Trial everyone, trust no one.

@markaus that doesn't sound too promising :( was hoping for more positive words but appreciate the honesty. would you mind providing more details on Tim's sub or any others you've tried? I'm in Sydney and the US market opens at midnight here so am quite hesitant to start cause of work, if I could be up all night and sleep all day it'll be a different story

@bennos I'm in Sydney as well (Near Cronulla). You will learn stuff from everyone unfortunately it comes with a large cost and little learned. Tims teaching is messy, overpriced and he isn't good at teaching. IU has very clear explanations on things but doesn't explain as much as they say they will at the start of their DVDs. Almost seems rushed at times. I personally would try Superman for a few months if I had the spare cash but I think I'm fine at trying it myself for a while. I'd be happy to

Just a quick update in regards to an OptionsXpress video tutorial; this is still to be done unfortunately I haven't had the time to do so yet. I really think the web needs one. Profitly has a Video Record option now so I'll give it a go. If that fails I'll try to use another video recorder of some sort. If anyone really, really needs info or could use the tutorial asap let me know. Cheers.

My new Watchlist system is working well but still needs lots of testing. All these guru's seem pretty shit at showing how they find stocks so it's an uphill battle. So far 3 or my 4 charts had great opportunities for profits. Two I got from Matt D; one of them was great. Today I found this: NSSC "Record Annual Revenue of $77.8 Million". If this sucker can retest $7 on a dip and get past $7.50 and even $7.85 expect further highs. Im still a noob but whatever.

Well this stock really lost it's volume but has stuck at $7. I won't go on about this one but I'll be watching it. Might learn something. Overall my Watchlist for the week has been great so hopefully this continues long term. :) Top picks: FOLD (new lows and could explode on news), PACB (strong $6 sup) & ARIA (bullish)

Well this week has been very crappy so far. Tonight I lost about $40 on two trades total. I'm not angry at the trades, I had my plan and bailed quick but this Bear Market sux balls -- The DVD's and info I study has been great but at the end of the day I still have many issues trading. I never see opportunities shown by the guru's. Could be the Bear Market but I'm getting very flustered about the whole thing. Wish I could sit with someone just once so they could correct me on stuff. Be careful out there!! Check out my new blog on OX!!

I've put in a wire transfer to get my funds back to Aus. Trading in this market is getting worse and I feel I need to protect my cash against a possible USD economy crash. Back to study, find employment and start again with a new broker.

Im still creating Watchlists and found what I think to be good ones. Can't trade but it doesn't mean I can't learn: PACB, ARRY, XNPT, THRX & CTRV, AVXL (vie Matt Duffield). Learn, learn, learn.
