Try calculating your risk amount before you take the trade and reduce the size of the trade to a more comfortable amount

@MasiJunior OK, to paraphrase what I wrotein the post, I'm taking a short break from trading to work on something that has been a consistent problem for me. Sure it's only 15 trades, but I've run into the same problem on all 15 trades and I want to work on it before Itrade again. Is that weird or something?

No actually i admire that you recognized a Problem after after a short Periode of time & now you work it out. Let us know how your journes continues.

I say this because it kept happening on many stocks like FORD recently.

@RedScourge All algo scam. Just have to look at L1 spread, its ridiculus.

Try using mental stop losses on support levels instead of ramdon percentages. I used to use stop losses, but sometimes a stock will slightly dip, take out my stop loss, and continue to uptick.

Well it looks like I got stopped out, lol. I figured since it was a tiny stock and TONS of volume it would follow the FORD pattern, but it does not seem to have worked out that way. @StarSeedz I use stops because I can only trade during the early morning since I'm west coast, and then I go to work @juin Interesting, I'll have to get used to what algo spam looks like.

Also as for market data, Regarding market data subscriptions, realize that you're already paying a minimum of $10 a month for IB, if you make no trades, that is. If you pay them $10 worth of commissions for them the $10 a month is waived. They offer some free market data subscriptions, and lots of good ones, but I only pay $5 a month for add-on market data, because there's one that's $10 a month, but I think they only charge me $5 because they provide one for free which they value at $5, and I t

...hink they only charge you the difference if you opt out of that one.

I'll more than likely cover the commission costs a few times a week. Even though the TOS Level 2 is crap, I can still 'read it' and get an idea of things there. I'd simply be using the WebTrader plaform, and IB for that matter, for orders and as a broker and TOS for charts, etc.

I've been going through the WebTrader demo with the sym data and minimizing windows or data that I don't need to get rid of clutter and extra stuff. Will more than likely make the change in the next week or so...thanks agian

For those who don't know, BTU and ACI are both coal stocks on the verge of bankruptcy. They are likely to be all over the place, but news could send them firing in either direction suddenly, so be careful. Definitely do not do any long term shorts on these while they're low, because you never know..

@borix7 Absolutely brotha! The watch lists and recaps are crucial when starting out. You don't have to post them like I do but making them is extremely helpful when sticking to a plan. Thanks again for the feedback!

I have found the same thing. Also true if you're using small positions, because commissions will really start to eat your profits. However, there's something to be said for overtrading a bit with small amounts just to get some practice in before moving on to bigger trades.

Thanks for the post. Much to think about.

The thing is that getting small position like 100 shares for gain 20 cents profit or loss will not move our money up at all. The fees you need to pay per transaction will eat your $$$ 1 by 1. Need to play big gain plays. I lost $1500 of my acct in 3 weeks because of that. Less trades, quality plays bring $$$. Hope this help :)

As Tim says, its not an exact science. I believe each trade is unique. So its not a perpetual hell. You should not take ur chance when the support does not hold. IMO morning and mid day breakouts might behave violently but not the ones near the market close.

communist_owl Aug 31, 15 9:22 AM

@iLLeSt On the contrary, I always take very small position sizes (< 500 shares)

iLLeSt
iLLeSt Aug 31, 15 9:25 AM

@communist_owl I would try risking about 2-4% of your account value on each trade. That is usually a decent amount to risk. If your stop doesn't risk that, it may be too close.

@RedScourge Nice job man. However in my opinion, i like broad screens and dont mind looking through 6 pages of charts to find the real winner, because each parameter added might reduce the chances of a real winner coming up. However, it is likely that your tweeks will generate quite good results. I will be using it and we'll see well it does.
