Shorts, days to cover is simply a calculation done by taking the short interest as reported (found on Yahoo Fiannce or other such sites) divided by the 100 day average volume of the stock. If only short covering took place, that is how many days it would take them to cover all of their positions. The number really is just a guide. Under 5, won't add much to the momentum 5-10, could provide a squeeze on good news, over 10 and it should add a lot of momentum to the trade if the stock breaks out
Been making money on CLF, thanks to you.
@Turbobob I like that, did you come up with that yourself or did you find it elsewhere?
It is a common calculation.

I think that's been one of my pitfalls. Thank you for the honesty.
No problem bro, I am still trying to get myself away from that, I am getting better but having a checklist of things a stock should pass before you enter a trade and its rating 1-10 or 1-100 would be a good idea for you to control that impulse trading to make you see the actual numbers before you get yourself into that pit. Self-analyzation is the single biggest factor to control in this game, need to control emotions and act like a retired trader. Dont trade too often, pick and choose your trad
Pick and choose your trade. If I can do it, so can you.

Same, I bought 1000 shares OPXA at 1.33, thinking will hold overnight, but the stock up so fast so I sold all at 1.44, $91 in 5 minutes :)
I got faked out and burned my last day trade trying to capture this move, glad you made money on it!
@DapperDude thanks! try waiting for the last 30 mins. much more price confirmation in my opinion
@Quan_Phan lol yeah it moved too fast so i just took profits, congrats!

$OPXA made my watchlist because it had volume on Friday and was a former runner ... I only look to trade volatile stocks with volume over 1Mil ... Anything under 1 Mil and you run the risk of wider spreads and not being able to properly assess risk
@LivingLarge88 I would agree with that, I've been liking the stocks/charts of 500k-999k a lot less lately. I've also upped my price range to $10 because some of those can really move and you can make as much or even more, even as a smaller acct.
LoL Very soon Buddy!!! I will start posting a watchlist once I transition into real money trading :)

@LivingLarge88 Have you seen data for float or short% on Etrade pro? I haven't noticed it. The only times those discrepancies effect my decision is if I'm already on the fence for the trade because something doesn't feel right and sometimes the data will be missing. I was asking more out of curiosity and to satisfy my OCD =)

@timothysykes No, it wasn't greed at all. I was working at the time and didn't realize this stock was going parabolic. Not having a computer or smartphone at the time really hurt me, but I learned a valuable lesson. Hence the reason I bought a smart phone and am currently posting this with my smartphome
smartphone^
After work I used my co-workers smartphone to check the stock ($DRYS), $70.00!!! So I called my broker @ Scottrade to have a broker assisted trade and sell @ $70.00 limit order, well, the stock was halted pre-market and was halted all day long until the next day at 10:30 a.m
I take fault for not having an exit strategy, but it was in no shape or form GREED!!!

If you are nervously uncomfortable, something isn't right. Whether that be your plan, your risk, the stock's price action, or just your confidence. Hence the "rule" when in doubt, get out. During a live trade is not the time to fix whatever issue you may be facing. You need to ask yourself a couple questions before trading. How much am I willing to lose without caring about in a single trade? How much can I lose in a day before it upsets me? These need to be your max risk numbers while trading.
Staying within these limits makes trading a lot less stressful and has less of a negative impact on your confidence.
I got stopped out at 12.94, i'm still holding 10 shares kinda stupidly.

I'm getting to the point that I'm starting to favor dips more than breakout plays. What do y'all think?
