Tim you said something in your 7 free video lessons about Volume too, you didn't mention here. You look for gainers and volume correct?

The only downside of Yahoo Finance overview is that it shows only major exchanges, in case of screening OTCs, good to use Google Stock Screener

Tim, Wouldn't it be worth looking at percentage losers for shorting opportunities or am I talking crap? Jus asking

PeeOn
PeeOnAug 21, 14 12:31 PM

My strategy is 90% shorting, as many of the biggest percentage gainers are nothing more than blatent pumps. Of course, guaranteed to crash back down to Earth.

I just became Tim's student and I am learning a lot. Still haven't started trading yet, because I am studying the strategies and materials as well as the patterns of the alerted $s. So far, very impressed and confident. Hope to start trading in a week or so in September. Look out for @Ozarian.

eheldman3
eheldman3Aug 22, 14 9:47 PM

@Ozarian welcome aboard. I just started this week, also watched and read a lot, you are right to study first. Knowledge is power in this case, don't rush into it.

@ozarian @eheldman3 hi guys how long did you have to wait after applying to be Tims student? To be accepted? I am living out in Dubai and have applied a few weeks ago. Thanks and congrats.

eheldman3
eheldman3Aug 23, 14 2:47 PM

@adamthefirst I did apply to be a Challenge Student but am not currently doing it yet. You have to apply and they will contact you in about 1 week but that's all I know. I just started trading this week and doing the penny silver it is probably best way to start if you don't have a lot of money.

adamthefirst
adamthefirstAug 23, 14 3:06 PM

@eheldman3 thanks for that, appreciate all info. Which broker are you using? One stumbling block!

eheldman3
eheldman3Aug 23, 14 4:38 PM

@adamthefirst Tim posted a good video on that. As he recommends use SureTrader if you have less then 10k, IB if you have 10k+ and his high-end broker if you have 30k+. The problem in using any US broker is PDT rules on day trading requires 25k equity so if you are like me Suretrader is your best bet. Hope that helps.

PeeOn
PeeOnAug 24, 14 2:34 AM

@adamthefirst I'll give you the opposite opinion on SureTrader. The one positive, no PDT rule, is FAR outweighed by the NUMEROUS negatives. Drama this past weak included a blitzkrieg of daily messages. Way more than usual and it's distracting. NONE of my other brokers blow you up with multiple daily messages. Add to it an unexplained rule change on JRJC: no leverage. I spoke with manager Earv and told him to stop with all the DRAMA AND arbitrary rule changes. What a bunch of clowns!

adamthefirst
adamthefirstAug 24, 14 6:00 AM

@PeeOn thanks for that I appreciate everyone's opinions. So who are you using? As broker?

eheldman3
eheldman3Aug 24, 14 12:19 PM

@PeeOn yeah SureTrader for the most part sucks, bad tech support, bugs in software etc. but as you said the PDT rule makes it worth while - unless you have a bigger account.

bidbuytom
bidbuytomAug 24, 14 9:10 PM

Hi Tim. You said secret #1 is use Stocks To Trade & #2 is Yahoo Finance. What do you like about Stocks To Trade? I'm a Challenge student & paid for the STT service, however I'm frustrated b/c you can only go back 1 year on the graphs. What do you like about STT?

PeeOn
PeeOnAug 25, 14 1:10 AM

@eheldman3 NO, even escaping the PDT rule is NOT worth all the other nonsense. It turned out to be irrelevant, also, as I am not a day-trader. As a swing-trader, I hold my trades overnight 99.9% of the time.

PeeOn
PeeOnAug 25, 14 1:12 AM

@adamthefirst I have several other brokers, including Etrade and Optionshouse.

hkunz

i've noticed though that really huge losers in the -70-85% drops have really high odds of bouncing the next day due to short covering and lots of fools buying into what they think is a "bargain".

TradingBell
TradingBellMar 14, 16 7:51 PM

Takeaway: Look for biggest gainers (Yahoo Finance -> Market data -> Market movers -> % gains) If they are up for bad reason (hype - temporary catalyst), you short it, for a good reason (good news, earning winners - which last for 2-20 days ), you buy it Scan daily: (pre-market, 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm)
